No More Phones For Farmers?

BT has recently announced that they are cutting the light out of a lot of their phone boxes across the rural parts of the country. If you are trying to get on the phone to someone at 3 in the morning how are you going to be able to do this with no light?
Emergency
BT are refusing to replace many of the bulbs because they are saying that a lot of the boxes are simply not used enough but the people that live around the area are really annoyed because if they have to go out and make a call they are having to take a torch with them or dial in darkness.
This is something that really could cause problems when it comes to an emergency. Can you imagine trying to look for a torch if your house was on fire just so you could go out to a pay phone and make the call. The thing is, many people already panic if they have to rush off to the phone box in the middle of the night, can you imagine if the light was off.
The counter argument
Bt have been arguing that a lot of people are now using things like mobile phones however in rural areas the coverage is still not that great so congratulations there BT.
The stupid thing is that it only costs BT £9 a year to run a bulb on one of these phone boxes which works at around 3p a day which is a lot less than it costs for a minute of talk to one of their lousy team members!
However there are of course many other ways you can call someone or get in contact with them such as using services like fax to email, call conferencing and of course if there are no lights you may need some mobile phone insurance.

Many people are becoming aware of the need to sell old phones. You've been hearing “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” for quite some time now, but have you ever wondered exactly how these three R's can apply to your old phone? There are many companies that will buy your old phone, but what do they do with them after they buy them from you? Selling your old phone can be a win-win situation for everyone. You may be surprised to discover all the ways in which selling your old phone can benefit you, the environment, and your country.
More people sell old phones before they have been used to their full capacity. Based on studies conducted in December 2008, the UK ranks #12 in the world for the countries with the most mobile phones. Out of the top twelve, the UK is one of four countries that have more mobile phones than people.
Although estimates vary, there could be as many as 90 million phones in the UK that are no longer being used. People in the UK are being encouraged to reduce the number of phones they buy, keeping their older phones longer before purchasing new ones, which helps keep them out of landfills.
When you sell old phones to be recycled, they go through a rigorous evaluation process. If the phones are still working they are often reused by selling them, renting them, or donating them to various charitable organizations. These organizations reuse the phones by refurbishing them and either selling them to bring in extra cash, or giving them to their members, which can include women in shelters, people with disabilities, and soldiers. If the phones are no longer useable, they are carefully dismantled and various parts, such as plastics, metals, and batteries, are removed and either reused or properly disposed of.

Most companies that buy old phones do everything they can to make sure that each phone is used to its best capacity.
